Somaliland is one of twelve countries worldwide that recognize Taiwan as an independent country and is itself fighting for recognition in the world, so we are happy, that last month, Somaliland’s Foreign Minister, Abdirahman Adam, wrapped up a significant visit to the United States, setting the stage for an anticipated official trip to Washington, D.C. by President Irro.
According to senior diplomatic sources, the visit was positively received and marked a major milestone in Somaliland’s ongoing push for international recognition.
Shortly after the visit, U.S. Congressman Scott Perry introduced the “Somaliland Recognition Act” to the House Foreign Affairs Committee. If passed, the bill would move through both chambers of Congress before reaching the President for approval.
Although Perry introduced a similar bill in late 2024, the latest version has attracted wider backing and greater attention.
Prominent Republicans have also begun voicing support. Senator Ted Cruz recently commended Somaliland’s “democratic credentials” during a session of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee.
